ancona
Ancona, where the sun rises and sets on the sea, ends this quick tour. This important port city has a wharf of more than three kilometers in length and is the regional capital. The many interesting sights to be found in the historic city center include the Mole e l’Arco Clementino di Vanvitelli, the 15th century Calamo Fountain [Fontana Calamo] and the Fontana delle Tredici Cannelle, the Plebicite Plaza [Piazza Plebiscito], the plaza of the Senate [piazza del Senato], the Theater of the Muses [il Teatro delle Muse], and the San Ciriaco Cathedral [la Cattedrale di San Ciriaco], which is one of the most splendid examples of Romanesque in Le Marche and in all of Italy. Also of interest is the National Archeology Museum [il Museo Archeologico Nazionale] of Le Marche, wherein the rich heritage of the origin of Le Marche is documented, from prehistory, to the dawn of history, through the high medieval period.
