Fortresses, castles, and small villages; art, museums, theaters, and monasteries all bear witness to the cultural and historical richness of Le Marche. Casacorno is very close to the town of Jesi, which is the homeland of both the Emperor Federico II of Svevia and Giovanbattista Pergolesi. The oldest part of the city is still preserved within the circle of city walls dating from the 14th century. Jesi is known for several important sites that merit a visit such as the Palazzo della Signoria, built by Francesco di Giorgio Martini with the assistance of Sansovino, and the Palazzo Pianetti Tesei, a rococo tour de force, within which is the municipal art gallery that is home to an unrivaled collection of Lorenzo Lotto’s masterpieces. In addition, Casacorno is also quite close to the better-known villages of Recanti---home of Giacomo Leopardi and Loreto---whose Basilica houses the Santa Casa and the statue of the Black Virgin Mary [La Vergine Nera].
